The biggest challenge with this project had to do with the main cover. We had to navigate a last minute change in location and had to adjust with weather conditions. The umbrellas that the ladies brought were their own, and unplanned, were used as the cover that brought in so much more personality that highlighted the diversity in race and age in the nursing industry.
It could've ended up as a simple, generic image that represented the nursing community. And instead, we were able to draw life and joy from their profession.

My biggest takeaway from this project is to be able capture the emotion of the subject matter. In this case, the joy of caring within the community health worker space. The ladies featured in this edition have never met each other prior to this shoot, and they bonded because of the good work that they do in the community. Capturing anything less that that would have been a disservice.
Apart from that, the project itselft, the magazine was a layout exercise. It was published through Adobe InDesign
